Democrats running to replace Elise Stefanik in U.S. Congress go head-to-head on the debate stage.

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) - Democrats running to replace Elise Stefanik in U.S. Congress go head-to-head on the debate stage. In the democratic primary later this month, you’ll see dairy farmer Blake Genebien and Lake Placid business owner Stuart Amoriell on the ballot. At the debate hosted by our sister station, WRGB, they discussed ways to overhaul healthcare in the United States, repair the country’s relationship with Canada, and their stance on the war in Iran. While the candidates agreed on some issues, both were divided on how to approach ICE if elected to Congress. Amoriell wants to dismantle and replace the agency, while Genebien says he would not defund ICE, but would require the removal of facemasks. “I am fighting for universal healthcare. To strengthen our healthcare system. To get money and corporate power out of politics. To repair our relationship with Canada and our international alliances,” said Amoriell. “If you want to save our rural hospitals, I am going to work for you. If you want to fight to maintain the benefits of our veterans and our seniors that have worked a lifetime to earn, I am going to fight for you,” said Gendebien.
