His fitness has been the biggest talking point in Blues camp all week, with doubts over his condition after he trained separately from his Blues teammates on Thursday despite coach Laurie Daley saying earlier in the week that he had to get through that session.

But he looked unencumbered on Saturday in a positive sign that he’ll play next week after he suffered a setback before the opener.

Moses injured his left hamstring while doing extras at a training session two days before the Origin opener in Sydney and was ruled out the following day. Ethan Strange was then rushed into the starting side.

The Raiders star was tremendous on debut for the Blues as he and Nathan Cleary helped spark a second-half comeback. Strange is the logical choice to come in if Moses is again ruled out.

“Whatever happens, we’ve got contingencies for both ways. But he’s definitely tracking along well, and I’ll leave that in the hands of the blokes that are supposed to be looking after that,” NSW hooker Reece Robson said before the session.

“Just talking to Mitch, he’s confident that he’ll be right so we’re giving him every chance to get right before we get him out there at training, and hopefully we see a bit more of him at training today.

“Whatever happens, we’re right for both.”

Even if Moses is unable to get through full sessions in the coming days, Robson remains confident that the combinations are there from previous camps to help them connect on the field in Melbourne.

“I’ve played a lot of footy with him in the past, which helps that. You don’t need as much footy (together) at all,” he said.

“And to be fair, a lot of it comes down to the reps you get on the field, and we’ve all played a lot of games alongside Mitch so I think he slots in pretty well.

“We had a lot more reps with him than we did with Ethan coming in on game one, and you saw the job he did.

“He came in the day before and went out and did his thing, and everyone just slotted in around it.

“So it definitely just goes to show you don’t need too much time at all.”

Prop forward Mitch Barnett said he had no doubts that Moses would take the field on Wednesday when the Blues look to wrap up the series.

“He’s pretty straight up and down in terms of honesty, and he’s very confident he’s playing,” he said.

“I think he’s running, he’s with us today. I don’t know the ins and outs of it, but I don’t have a shadow of a doubt in my mind (that he’ll play).”

Meanwhile, Blues players have supported Origin II referee Ashley Klein following reports the game’s leading official used to have a gambling addiction.

Klein reportedly lost more than $400,000 on horse and greyhound racing but declared his gambling was not related to rugby league and didn’t affect his role with the whistle.

“That’s not a topic for me to discuss at all,” Barnett said.

“As someone who cares about people, I hope he’s doing OK and had all the help he can get, but that has nothing to do with me, and I won’t comment any further on that.”

Robson was full of praise for the work Klein has done in the NRL and rep footy.

“He’s a great referee,” the NSW hooker said.

“He’s done it for a long time, and he’s always delivered on the big stage as being a great referee. That’s why he keeps getting those jobs.

“In terms of the other stuff, that’s a personal issue for him to work through and I’m sure he’s got the help and the friends and the family around him to help him through that sort of stuff.”
