Minister in the presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said that there will be no “Shutdown” of the country as part of the anti-illegal immigration marches and protests.
Ntshavheni also said that President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation soon to outline the government’s new plan to manage the migration crisis in the country.
She addressed the illegal migration issue during a post cabinet briefing on Friday.
Ntshavheni has again being forced to explain what government is actually doing to address the immigration crisis amid growing protests.
Hundreds of foreign nationals from countries like Mozambique have already left the country due to growing fears of violence and a planned shutdown at the end of June.
But Ntshavheni said no shutdown will take place.
"As we have indicated before, there is nobody who’s going to do a shutdown of this country and we must be very clear about that," said Ntshavheni.
She also had some stern words for those taking things into their own hands.
"South Africans have the right to protest and they can march as provided by the Constitution. But South Africans have no right to take the law into their own hands," said Ntshavheni.
She also added that the government is currently working on addressing the immigration challenges and details will be released by the Ramaphosa on an announced date,
